Thyme, Jekka's
Thymus Jekka's
This variety was introduced by the famous herb grower, Jekka McVicar, and is one of the best to grow for both ornamental and culinary qualities. It is evergreen with a neat, compact, mounding habit and produces masses of pale purple-pink flowers in early spring, then when these are trimmed back it will quickly flower again. The flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies.
For culinary use it has a wonderful flavour which is best if the leaves are trimmed before flowering. Plant in a sunny position in light, poor soil. If the soil is heavy it will be less aromatic and will not flower so well.
Height 20cm (8ins), spread 15cm (6ins).
