Very ornamental sage with foliage which, when crushed, smells heavily of pineapple. The leaves can be used in cakes and fruit concoctions or to make a herbal tea. The nectar rich red flowers appear on 3cm spikes in late summer and autumn and these when cut look and smell wonderful. Plant in fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun. May need protection in cold winters when it may die down but shoot again in the spring.

Height 1m (3 1/3ft), spread 60 - 90cm (2 - 3ft).
