Salvia microphylla v. Microphylla
A relatively hardy evergreen which should be planted in a warm, sunny location in well drained soil which does not get waterlogged in the winter. It will need protection in severe frosty weather. In summer it will have striking cerise flowers and these and the leaves can be dried to make pot pouri. The aromatic leaves give off an amazing blackcurrant perfume and these can be used in stuffings, with fruit salads and in fruit pies.
