Lupins are reliable, tough, robust, easy to grow plants with fresh green, deeply fingered foliage which radiates from the tip of the leaf stalk like the spokes of a wheel and forms a neat mound all summer. From June to August beautiful, sturdy flower spikes of creany-white pea-like scented flowers are formed opening from the base of the flower spike upwards. These are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. Deadhead faded blooms to encourage a second small flush of flowers in early autumn. Plant in well-drained, humus rich, sandy soil, slightly acidic if possible, in sun or lightly dappled shade. All parts of the plant, especially the seeds, may cause severe discomfort if eaten.
