Lupins are reliable, tough, robust, easy to grow plants with fresh green, deeply fingered foliage which radiates from the tip of the leaf stalk like the spokes of a wheel and forms a neat mound all summer. The erect flowers spikes appear from June to August with dense pea-like flowers which are smokey blue, sweetly scented and will reach up to 50cm (20ins). These are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. As this is a more dwarf form than many others it will do well on more windy sites where the taller varieties will need some support. Dead head the faded flowers to encourage repeat flowering. Plant in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Height 50cm (19ins), Spread 40cm (15ins).
