Blueberries are partially self-fertile but two different varieties should be planted to improve pollination. Peaty (acid), moist soil is needed. They are better in full sun, but tolerant of partial shade. The flowers areattractive to bees.
Sunshine Blue is hardy and productive, high yields of large, light blue, firm berries over a long period from late July and throughout August. About half of the blue-grey leaves turn an eye-catching red in autumn before falling and the remainder stay on the bush all winter. This variety is self-fertile. Plant in a sunny site, sheltered from strong wind. Plant 60 - 90cm (2 - 3ft) apart. Buy any 3 blueberries for £15.
