Very dense, slow growing, compact, deciduous shrub with heart-shaped, deeply veined dark green leaves which turn purple-red in autumn. In spring and early summer it bears profuse flat heads of lacecap-like clusters, up to 8cm (3in) across, with small fertile white flowers surrounded by creamy-white sterile flowers followed by showy, round, fleshy bright red berries. Tolerant of moist soil.
Viburnums are a large family of both evergreen and deciduous shrubs, sometimes small trees, with white or pink, sometimes heavily fragrant flowers, which are often followed by small red, black or blue fruits. Most are fully hardy and are suitable for a shrub border or a woodland garden and should be grown in any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
Height and Spread: 1.5m x1.5m (5ft x 5ft).
