Pieris are a genus of evergreen shrubs grown for their attractive oblong or lance-shaped, glossy mid to dark green leaves which are often attractively coloured when young. They bear clusters of small, urn-shaped flowers in spring. Although frost hardy, the young foliage may be damaged by late frosts in spring, so cover with fleece if a late frost is forecast. Should the foliage be damaged, simply prune back the damage and the plant will re-shoot. Grow in acid soil which is moderately fertile, humus-rich and moist but well-drained, in sun or light shade. Shelter from cold drying winds and the morning sun.Pieris Mountain Fire is a dense bushy shrub with young foliage emerging vibrant red turning to deep glossy coppery-green then finally to deep green on maroon young stems. Sprays of creamy-white, lily-of-the-valley like flowers in spring on branched panicles. Height and spread 3-4m x 3-4m.
