Pieris are a genus of evergreen shrubs grown for their attractive oblong or lance-shaped, glossy mid to dark green leaves which are often attractively coloured when young. They bear clusters of small, urn-shaped flowers in spring. Although frost hardy, the young foliage may be damaged by late frosts in spring, so cover with fleece if a late frost is forecast. Should the foliage be damaged, simply prune back the damage and the plant will re-shoot. Grow in acid soil which is moderately fertile, humus-rich and moist but well-drained, in sun or light shade. Shelter from cold drying winds.Pieris Little Heath is a dwarf, compact form with small green leaves, which have an attractive pink flush when young, and with silvery-white margins. The leaves ensure that the shrub provides colourful interest all year round. Pink buds open to panicles of white tinged pink, lily-of-the-valley like flowers in May and these are attractive to pollinators. Plant in sun or light shade and due to its size it is ideal for container growing. Height and spread 80cm - 1m.
