Hebes are a large family of evergreen shrubs grown for both their foliage and attractive flower spikes. Some are fully hardy and others need winter protection. They should be grown in poor or moderately fertile, moist but well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, in a sunny position or partial shade. They need shelter from cold drying winds. They make excellent plants for a shrubbery, in warmer areas for ornamental hedges, or the smaller species for planting in containers.Hebe Mrs. Winder is a compact rounded form often grown for its very attractive glossy foliage which emerges reddish-purple then maturing to dark grey-green on purplish brown shoots. Bright violet-blue flowers which are attractive to pollinators from August to October. This variety will tolerate partial shade. Height 1m, spread 1.5m.
