Fascinating, unusual acer with 5-7 lobed leaves with individual trailing lobes which are very long and narrow. As the tree matures the length of the leaf lobes increases. Due to its delicate nature it should be planted in sun or partial shade but out of mid-day sun, and protected from strong winds. However, in a gentle breeze the effect is stunning as the entire tree appears to move gracefully. Leaves are apple green in spring and summer, then burnished bronze and golden yellow in autumn before falling. Very slow growing eventually reaching about 3 metres (10ft) with rounded head. The smooth light green bark adds winter interest.
