Matricaria recutita
This is a self seeding annual with ferny delicate leaves and aster type flowers in July and August. They have a central yellow disc surrounded by white petals and smell of apples. It is made into a herbal tea which is used to calm, feed and soothe the nervous system and is also good for the digestion. The young, bitter shoots are used for seasoning. Needs a sunny position and can thrive in poor soils.
Height 15-30cm (6-12ins).
