Bergenia Rotblum
Elephant's Ears Rotblum
This evergreen gives a wonderful display all year with its round, leathery leaves with wavy edges, which are bronze flushed red in spring, turning to green in the summer. It is bushy, clump forming with erect, rounded pendulous clusters of red/pink flowers held well above the foliage in spring. These are attractive to bees and butterflies.
Bergenias are named after a professor from Frankfurt, Karl August von Bergen, who lived from 1704 to 1760. A very easy plant to grow in shade or semi-shade and well drained soil. Height up to 50cm (19in) with spread of 1m (3ft 4ins).
