Considered by many to be the best dome-shaped, red-leafed Acer, with a graceful arching habit and branches weeping right to the ground. The feathery leaves with 7-9 narrow, deeply incised lobes emerge in the spring a deep burgundy red.

In semi-shade this intense colour will hold all summer until it turns a vibrant crimson in the autumn, or in full sun the leaves will fade slightly and take on shades of green before turning crimson-red in autumn before falling. Protect from the mid-day sun. Small purple flowers appear in spring to be followed by purple fruits.

This variety makes a stunning feature and its cascading habit offers winter interest even when void of leaves. Excellent specimen for containers, pond sides or in borders.

Plant in moist but well drained acid to neutral soil in a position sheltered from strong winds. Grafted at 50cm, height 1.5m-2m (4-6ft), spread 1-2m (3-6ft).

Special offer on 3 Litre Japanese Maples - buy 2 for £40 - saving £9.98.
