A great opportunity to see just how easy it is to propagate fruit trees from cuttings using traditional grafting methods!
- Expert Grafters demonstrating the craft.
- Expert advice on fruit growing.
- Bring your own scion wood (see below for what to bring), or swap or purchase scion wood from about around 200 pieces provided by The Mid-Shires Orchard Group.
- Fruit trees available for collection, priced from £19.51 (with collection discount, multi buy discount and Garden Card discount).
- Fruit root stocks available for collection at £2.96 each, £2.60 each for 5+.
You will be able to observe the whole process and get tips on how you can do this yourself. The grafters will demonstrate what cuts are required, the process of ensuring the two pieces of grafting material are brought in unison and how the grafting area is kept dry and secure. Advice will also be given on how to care for your newly grafted plant until it is ready to be established in the garden.
What is Scion Wood?

Scion wood (or grafting wood) is a young stick or shoot or sucker that is cut from a tree and used to graft onto a rootstock. This scion wood will be genetically identical to the tree from which it was taken, and therefore will bear fruit like the original tree.
