Tr = Bare Root Transplant
VAT is not chargeable on these plants.
Vigorous native deciduous tree with dense clusters of pale pink buds opening to white flowers early May followed by green crab apples in autumn suitable for jam, jelly and wine. These drop in winter and often carpet the ground. Any well drained fertile soil. Due to their long floweering period crab apples are good pollinators for fruiting apples.
Crab Apple do well incorporated into your hedge, not only as a tree to stand proud of the hedge, but also as part of the hedge, especially a native hedge. If you want it to be a tree, put a clear tag on the young plant to make sure it is clearly visible and does not get pruned down when the hedge is being trimmed. If you want it as part of the hedge it will enhance the beauty of the hedge and provide blossom in the spring for pollinating insects, then food for wild life in autumn. Simply plant the smallest size available in the hedge and trim in the same way as other plants in the hedge.
TREE 7.6 x 4.6m (25 x 15ft) in 20 years, ultimate height 11m (35ft).

Bare-Root Plants (Transplants)
Bare-root plants are sold without a pot/soil around the roots. This is a more cost effective and environmentally friendly way of growing plants. To ensure the best plant health we do not store our plants in cold storage, but they are left in our field or plant beds until they are ready for packing or collection.
Transplanted plants have been lifted from the ground and replanted. This encourages a better fibrous root system and makes the plant stronger and bushier.
Availability
Bare rooted plants are only available when the plants are dormant (typically from late November to March).
If a plant is currently out of stock because it is out of season (for example, bare rooted plants in summer) or we have sold out but we are expecting more to be available you can pre-order the plant. We only charge credit/debit cards when an order is despatched, not when an order is placed.
