Raised in 1920 by Mr. Chivers of Histon in Cambridgeshire, this attractive late variety is very easy to grow and produces a prolific crop of medium sized apples, similar in appearance to Cox’s, golden and flushed dark red. The dense, crisp and juicy flesh is sweet with a well balanced honeyed flavour. Tolerant of cold winters so suitable throughout the country. Its upright habit makes it good for growing in restricted spaces. Suitable for colder areas and is more resistant to frost.

Crab apples such as Golden Hornet and John Downie also are good pollinators for all apples. In areas where there are many apple trees already growing it may not be necessary to plant an extra pollinator.
