A small variety but it makes a large impression with leaves which emerge bright yellow with a smoky-green margin in spring, then turn to an impressive yellowish-white with blue-green margins in summer. Pale lavender, lily-like flowers in July. Slowish growing but making a dense clump. Thrives in half to full shade.

Hostas make ideal ground cover plants for sun or partial shade and once established can be left undisturbed for years. The variegated varieties keep their colouring better if planted in semi-shade. They thrive in well-drained but moisture retentive soils and this should be enriched with well rotted compost or leaf-mould. The foliage is most attractive and in the summer the plants are crowned with racemes of nodding trumpet-like flowers which are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. They are also good planted in pots and containers and can brighten up a shady area with tits changing variegated foliage. The foliage will die down in the winter then re-shoot in the spring. Height & Spread: 30-40 x 60-75cm (12-16ins x 2-2.5ft).
