Achillea Summerwine

Achillea Summerwine (Yarrow)
Enlarge Picture Enlarge picture

Very attractive variety with feathery dark green leaves. From June to August it produces a continuous display of white eyed, velvety-crimson flowers in loose, flattened flower heads, which fade to buff-pink giving a superb two tone effect. These are held high on tall stems well above the foliage and should not be cut down until late winter so one can enjoy the dried seed heads in the winter sunlight. The flowers which are attractive to bees are good for cutting. Plant in full sun in moist but well drained soil, but when established tolerant of dryer conditions. Happy in exposed sites. Height 90cm (3ft), spread 75cm (30ins).
