Vigorous native deciduous tree with masses of clusters of conspicuous white flowers opening with the leaves in April followed by edible fruit in summer. Leaves turn crimson in autumn. Any well drained soil.
If you want to incorporate Wild Cherry into your hedge, not only as a tree to stand proud of the hedge, but also as part of the hedge, especially a native hedge. If you want it to be a tree, put a clear tag on the young plant to make sure it is clearly visible and does not get pruned down when the hedge is being trimmed. If you want it as part of the hedge it will enhance the beauty of the hedge and provide blossom in the spring for pollinating insects, then food for wild life in autumn. Simply plant the smallest size available in the hedge and trim in the same way as other plants in the hedge.TREE 35ft x 25ft (11m x 7.6m) in 20 years, ultimate height 60ft (18m).
