Hardy and very easy to grow in either exposed or sheltered positions making a neat clump which grows symmetrically from the centre with narrowly ovate toothed mid-green leaves. From July well into autumn when the first severe frosts arrive, it will carry an abundance of single daisy like flowers on long, strong stalks which do not flop, making excellent cut flowers. They are attractive to bees and butterflies. Also the dried seed heads are attractive and useful for everlasting arrangements. This variety has been awarded the R.H.S. Award of Garden Merit and the 1999 Perennial Plant of the Year. It is not surprising this plant has gained these two prestigious awards as its abundance of flowers are up to 12cm (4 3/4ins) across and are deep yellow with a prominent nearly black central cone. Plant in sun or partial shade in any moist but well-drained soil and tolerant of clay. It forms a neat clump of up to 60cm (2ft).
