Deciduous native hedgerow shrub. Good for underplanting and in mixed hedges. Green stems flushed red. Rich autumn colouring. Any soil but very chalk tolerant and thrives in a damp position. Will make a good informal hedge. For this purpose plant 2ft (60cm) apart. SHRUB 8ft x 6ft (2.4m x 1.8m). If grown as a shrub prune hard in spring to improve stem colour.
