Attractive native deciduous tree which bears masses of 5 inch (13cm) long spikes of almond-scented white flowers in May. These are followed by bitter black fruits which birds love, hence the name 'Bird Cherry'. Any well drained soil, and will even thrive on quite poor soil. TREE 25ft x 15ft (7.6m x 4.6m) in 20 years, ultimate height 35ft (11m).
