Dense, tufted, semi-evergreen with long mid-green leaves and attractive bristled, silvery purple-green spikelets, turning golden when ripe are carried on long stemmed oat-like panicles. These are excellent dried for use in flower arrangements. Full sun. Height 6ft (180cm), spread 4ft (120cm).

Wonderful new variety of one of the most imposing of ornamental grasses with distinctive golden variegated evergreen foliage making a splendid setting for the 4ft (120cm) high white flower plumes which appear in late summer. These flower plumes can be used in fresh or dried flower arrangements. Excellent feature plant. Height 4ft (120cm), spread 4ft (120cm).

Dramatic, deciduous grass that does not take up too much space. Neat clumps of erect and arching narrow blue-green leaves with central white stripe. In late summer and autumn, masses of upright feathery flower heads appear opening white-tinged-red then changing to silver. These shimmer in the sun and are excellent for cutting. A stunning, easy to grow, variegated grass with flat, linear, erect but arching green and yellow striped leaves, the eye-catching stripes running lengthwise up the leaves. Narrow panicles of golden-yellow flowers appear in June and July. Grow in sun or part-shade in any moist soil, including boggy or even in very shallow water. Evergreen to semi-evergreen, but for best effect trim foliage back in spring. A slow spreading variety which will not be invasive. Height and spread approximately 75cm (2.5ft).

RIBBON GRASS (Phalaris arundinacea picta Feesey). NewGo to Top of Page

A dramatic grass with green and white variegation striped lengthwise, with the white more predominant than the green, and even more attractive in spring and autumn when the temperatures are cooler when a beautiful pink hue appears. Tan flower spikes, attractive to butterflies, appear in summer. Fast growing and spreading evergreen which thrives in moist soil and will make a good ground cover in sun or partial shade. Very hardy evergreen, tufting, medium green grass, which produces very attractive sprays of dainty, dangling, heart-shaped flowers in summer.
